Weird polish letters

I have found Polish Subtitles for the movie Stranger than fiction, but the little weird polish letters dont work in VLC. What can i do about this? Do the little polish letters work in other programs?

Does the subtitles even have the diacritic marks? That is what you are refering to, right?

I have come across subtitles from torrents of French that have no diacritics.

probably your codepage isn't set to "central european", or someone edited the file and saved it with the wrong codepage.

microsoft word has a function to "fix broken text" (under "tools").

if all subtitles in languages with special characters were in unicode, and if opensubtitles accepted unicode subtitles, this wouldn't happen.
