How to lookup subtitles for just a DVD disc

Thu Jun 02, 2011 7:59 pm

Hello all.
It appears from my researching that looking up subtitles for a *file* is easy, however looking up subtitles for a specific DVD disc...is that possible/easy?

If not could a make a humble feature request that subtitles somehow be optionally bound to a disc id, as well, somehow.

It would help projects like mine and splayer, which attempt to download DVD subtitles from opensubtitles by name only currently.

A couple options for the unique id:
1) [my preferred way would be] use the same one themoviedb.org uses: http://api.themoviedb.org/2.1/ids-hashes (basically an open source equivalent of Windows' IDvdInfo2::GetDiscID() method).
2) hash of the first 10 ifo files [ http://forums.thetvdb.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1726 ]

See also http://betterlogic.com/roger/2011/05/op ... subtitles/

Thoughts?
Thanks!

hi,

the best would be implemented tmdb ID disc, so you know imdbid, and using this you can search OS database. Thats the best what is available for now.

That's a good point--if you can go from file hash -> TMDB hash then you could lookup IMDB from that. Nice.

Noticed that the OpenSubtitles player has trouble downloading subtitles for DVD's--this might help it in this regard...
