greek subs appear as gibberish

trying to hard code subs to avi or dvd or mp4
the problem is that in all cases the results are gibberish even when Greek language is selected. Have used subtitle workshop, yamb,avisub, avid2dvd, and virtualdub with no success. any suggetions?

I checked the subs and they are in Windows-1253 encoding, as i expected.

I just used Aegisub and converted them into UTF-8, give it a try:
