Uploading hashes without subs

Thu Dec 10, 2009 12:20 am

Hello, there.

This message is mainly for "os", but comments are welcome.

I've developed a set of tools to work around the limitation on tv series support in os (it may come later for tvrage, but currently it's not) and among what I'm doing I've managed to get a modified torrent client to download only the parts of a torrent needed to hash files.

This means I can hash all files in any torrent feed almost immediately.

Would it make any sense to feed hashes (properly imdb'd and with the scene names) into the database, even without subtitles? This would make things much easier for people uploading subs to not need to identify the tv series beforehand.

Opinions are welcome.

hi eduo,

brilliant idea!
for sure, you can supply movies and also tv series, we got in API method for this: http://trac.opensubtitles.org/projects/ ... tMovieHash

but you won't insert hashes from RARed files, right ? :( Anyway, let me know, if everything works (InsertMovieHash first and then CheckMovieHash...)

Thanks a lot, I think it is really good idea. Do you want register some special UA for this?

I won't register hashes for RAR'd files because I don't use feeds that have them. I'm using the feeds out there for TV, which are the standard files for followers of tv series outside the US and thus lots of people benefit.

If I find a feed out there I can use for other stuff I might, but it would be a problem for the registration of IMDBs, which I currently can get easily from these feeds.

ok I see. yes, when there are no NFO files, it is a problem :) anyway, keep me informed, when you will run the service and also make some tests, if everything works ok.

thanks!

Sure. I'm still polishing the process. I didn't want to barrage the servers unnecessarily (I currently have the info for some 4 thousand files, with 20 or 30 every day adding up).
