Sound Effect Labelling

Mon Sep 11, 2023 5:42 pm

I am practicing subtitling a clip for the deaf and hard of hearing and I am struggling to find the right words to describe a sound effect.

The context is a car that is in a future dystopian type world and when it stops it makes a futuristic sort of hydraulic/robotic noise. The appearance of the car does not immediately indicate that the scene is set in the future.

Is anyone able to offer their thoughts? Any help is appreciated!

[Machinery Whirrs]
[Hydraulic Hissing]
[Robotic Noise]
[Car Engine Sputters]
[Engine Powers Down]
[Mechanical Noise]
[Mechanical Whirring]

Future or past doesn't matter, just describe the sound.
Or you can look for HI notations from futuristic movies like the Terminator.
