For subtitles that require synchronization, load the file to ESS, and try to synchronize them using Adjust Tool.

If the tool ‘Adjust’ fail to synchronize, try the Manual Synch tool. Finally repair them and save with a proper filename and encoding type.

For Vista and Windows 7 users: ESS is running on windows Vista and Windows 7. But if you want to change the default video player of Easy Subtitles Synchronizer (ESS) from VLC to Windows Media Player and vice-versa,
you must have full rights to the working folder (usually C:\Programm Files\Easy Subtitles Synchronizer):

1. Go to the C:\Program Files,
2. right click on C:\Programm Files\Easy Subtitles Synchronizer,
3. select Properties>security and press 'Edit',
4. Press 'Add' to add your username in the new form (on the 'Enter the object names to select' area) and press ok
5. then in the list 'Group or user names' you must see your username. Click on your username and to the Permissions' area click all check boxies on column "Allow"
6. click OK

Now you will be able to change the default video player.
Note: If you don't know your username then press on the windows' Start button. Your username will be on the top right of the menu, just under the image.

It can't be that hard to make cross-platform tools. Really.

This is windows-only, isn't it?

Yes, supports only XP, Vista :?

You can use a virtual machine to synchronize subtitles...

Probably a stupid question but: what changed in VLC 1.0 to require changes to subtitles? I have a set of subtitle handling tools myself and I didn't see any difference.

Also, above: Running virtual machines is never a working solution, especially for smaller utilities (it may be justifiable to run, say, AutoCAD, 3D Studio Max or Microsoft Office). It's much better to say out right there is no support for other platforms. No damage there (and it's usually understandable from a smaller-developer point of view).

The subtitles do not change. But if you have already downloaded the VLC 1.0 and you use it in ESS as default video viewer then you must download the latest ESS.

According to the virtual machine I agree with you, but many friends of mine use Ubundu and above it a WIN VM in order to run a variation of tools!!!!
:?

if you ask me, they're just making sure developers have no reason ever to support them. Maybe it's me, but the end doesn't justify the means. If you don't get support the the developer doesn't deserve you as a customer.
