Not only CD number is useless. It isn't working.

I search for French subtitles for Star Trek the motion picture with 1CD. The result is:

which includes 3 2-cd subtitles.

I think it happens only when you select a language. If the language is "ALL" it adds "subsumcd-1" to the URL and works fine.
