STOP already with the Google Translations!!!

I'm sorry, but I will be blunt here:

STOP ALREADY WITH THE GOD-DAMNED COMPUTER TRANSLATED SUBTITLES.

It's becoming more and more common to have new subtitles uploaded that are just computer translations of other languages.

This is HORRIBLE! It's the worst type of crap someone can put out here.

I blame both the functionality in subtitle editors (like Jubler, which I loved before they implemented this) and users, who are attention whores that need to have their subtitles downloaded, even if it's the worst possible action they can take.

I hereby propose that users who upload computer-translated subtitles are banned from uploading any more subtitles until clarified. Either that or their subtitles are automatically flagged as "possibly computer-translated".

The site is filling up with mediocre crap because of this.

I fullheartedly support your request. I can see some very limited use for automatic translations - if you're not sure whether you misheard a line, or if you want to grab the timecodes from some Chinese subs.
But anyone can run a subtitles file through translate.google.com if they think they must, so why on earth post them here?

Please add a "machine translated" checkbox to the bad subtitles report form.

I agree, machine translated subs are just for nothing, anyone can do that, and there is no excuse some translators can use them.

So why we need them then? Admins, just delete those subs, contact uploaders, if they dont stop these uploads, ban...

Well, after much toil, I did rework, and re-translate those computer subs so that they became to be about at the same level as DVD subs.

The point is that I never could have translated them without the computer generated stuff. So while I admit they should not proliferate here, nonetheless once in a while they can be useful.

I had never thought of translating subtitles with a translation program and then watching them, nor would I ever think about submitting such subtitles here. I found those machine translated subs via p2p.

In any case, I think you are both right in that the machine-translated subs have no place here and should be eliminated.

leave translators some kind of tag? message? signature?

maybe new subtitles should be scanned for words:
"translated" ... "google translator" .. "translator" ... etc

... and after that need of check the box:

I think those subtitles doesn't belong to website anyway, so they should be just deleted.

I full-heartedly agree. There are many badly translated subtitles as it is, even when "hand-made", so why add to the crap?

I vote for Machine Translations to be treated just as BAD subtitles: Flag and delete. They're worse than nothing, since they give the impression that there actually are subtitles and people who would look for a new, better one don't.
