DVD Subs Stuck

I was trying to watch a movie today, but for some reason the subtitles would get stuck on screen until the next subtitle showed up. When I played the DVD on my computer, I didn't have this problem, so what could be going wrong? Also, I noticed that on my computer, four subtitle tracks are available, while on my Blu-Ray/DVD player, only two are. The player is an Icom BD780 3D Multi Region Free Blu Ray DVD Player, NTSC / PAL.
