Language Detection on Subtitle Upload

Mon Dec 20, 2010 2:08 am

Hi.

I have uploaded 222 subtitles today. Half in spanish, half in English. All for Babylon 5 episodes.

All the spanish ones were "recognized" as English.

They all had .es.srt as the name suffix.

I have tried editing them but after a dozen or so I got "Hacking Attempt!" warnings. So I've stopped.

It seems the autodetect language is not working properly upon upload (it works in the "Correct Subtitle" page) and that hacking attempts are detected even in subtitle edition pages.

The subtitles have finished uploading. Most have their language incorrectly set. I would edit them from the office but so many banners, iframes and links to seedy sites have made our sysadmins close the access to the site with a classification of "phishing". I can't fix them until I get home.

Is there a way to fix all these subs to their correct language automatically? The suffix in their names is correct (.en.srt and .es.srt) and the autodetect recognizes the language properly (not on upload, but on the "correct subtitles") but the current process is slow and tedious, and JavaScript gets in the way of at least trying to open a lot of tabs to fix them all in bulk and if you manage to do it then you're flagged as a hacker by the system.

I see it's been fixed. I'm assuming it was scooby.

Thank you so much. I hope you had better tools than end users because otherwise it must've been a torture!

Thanks a lot, again. Really.

Yes, it's been fixed. "Torture" is putting it mildly

This idea has been put to OS, it should be in effect in the new version of opensubtitles.

And you're welcome, just don't do that to me again :D

I swear I used the API as it's supposed to be used. :( Language detection doesnt work well and someone had already created incorrect IMDB ids..:(

As long as you know I was joking.

I’m guessing this happens only when you’ve been automatically logged-out after awhile, right? If so, this isn’t something that’s only affecting you, it happens to me at times.

After a short time of inactivity on the site, the site automatically logs you out (this is normal), but on occasion this can also happen whilst doing any kind of admin work, including for all other users when using the “correct subtitle” feature. This is a bug that should/will be rectified.

I know you weren't completely serious. I know it was a lot of work, though. I appreciate it.

Not really. In this case it was after I tried opening all the subtitle pages in different tabs (ctrl-click in all subs in the list). I assume the "hacking attempt" was "detected" because I was loading sub pages faster than humanly readable. Never lost the login.

In that case, that shouldn't really happen to you unless you try accessing an admin feature that's not accessible to users. Saying that, that "admin feature" shouldn't even be visible to you. It's probably affecting different level users differently, in either case, I think it's a bug in the system?

I think this only happens to users using the "correct subtitle" feature for a prolonged time or trying to fix/access multiple reports simultaneously (since that page is related to admin work, the system probably blocks you after awhile), but just confirm that this only happens when using the "correct subtitle" feature and not by clicking any other link(s) on the page.

Thank you.

Right. It happened when I opened 40 or so tabs and then went through all of them hitting the "correct subtitles" button.
