Why are administrators removing subtitles for being "machine translated"?

Thu Dec 26, 2024 3:07 pm

Why are opensubtitles.org administrators removing subtitles for a reason that they were "machine translated" even if they are appropriately marked as "translated automatically"?

The deletion happens within seconds after submission so there is no way that they even inspected subtitles before deletion and they have no idea how much of them was machine translated and what was later corrected manually.

See this topic :

As smallbrother said a few days ago on a similar topic:
viewtopic.php?p=52072#p52072

....Crappy subs ( T.A) may satisfy the impatient downloader, but at the same time it severely frustrates the uploaders and even more the human translators who would spend MANY HOURS on creating something decent, because most downloads are already eaten away by those crappy machine translations, which are so much less work, and therefore always the first to appear....

Which i also agree, and other admins should also agree.

As soon as i see them, i delete them, sometimes even seconds after being uploaded!
You don't even need to inspect much, just click on the preview, and you can see from the first few lines that the subtitle is an t.a.
I think you have the reason why t.a's subtitles are deleted.
Take a look at those topics.
