Advice for software for text files.

Tue Jun 25, 2024 6:29 pm

I want to modify a .srt file for a film I saw on a streaming site. I do not have any video file. I am modifying the file using MsNotePad and it is a pain in the ... Do you know a free software that could process a .srt file without any video to do some simple things like modifying all time stamps of some portion of the file ? As an example : "add 1 s to all lines from 00:30:00:000 to 01:00:00:000". That would save me a lot of time. Thanks in advance. I apologize if the answer is obvious or it has already been asked 100 times. I mean no bother. Thank you in advance.

I downloaded "Jubler". It was installed with no problem and seems to have most functions I need. Thank you very much.

The link for SubtitleEdit is dead.
With me it's working well:
http://www.nikse.dk/subtitleedit
I don't know Jubler, but Subtitle Edit is great.
Nowadays a VPN is a must for everyone. A VPN allows you safe surfing and protects you against spying governments and companies.
I recommend AirVPN - from € 2,75 per month. Click the below banner for more info.

Can vouch for SubtitleEdit, loads of features, half of which I'll never use but it's nice to have options.

Thank you. I tried again today and - i do not know why - it worked this time. I installed SubtitleEdit with no problem. It actually seems to have many more features than Jubler so I guess it will be more convenient when I get used to it. It does not look that difficult.

Jubler did not ask me my language but installed it anyway, with the wrong alphabet, so it was difficult to understand the commands.
SubtitleEdit asked me my language, but installed English anyway.
There are always a lot of funny glitches like that when installing new software.

Thank you very much for your help.

I use this site to post translations of films featured on streaming sites from English to my own language, because my wife does not speak English, but most films already have English subtitles. She is deaf and could not watch movies without you guys. We love this site. Thank you very much to all for the great work.

Thank you for your thanks.

In Subtitle Edit you can change the language also after installing:
Subtitle Edit » Options » Choose language...

SubtitleWorkshop refuses to install on my windows 11 PC.
In earlier SubtitleWorkshop on Windows 7 and 10, UAC required root access. Try right click install executable, and “Run as Administrator”. Hopefully should solve for Win 11.

Subtitle Edit » Options » Choose language
Failed too. :P I guess it is because I did not install the "translation" package. 8) Thank you very much for help.

It would probably work because it was a problem of access rights to C:\programs\. Thank you very much for your help.
