Subtitle file overwrites other subs

Hello,
I’ve been hard coding subs when I convert all my movies but I seem to be overwriting other subtitles.

I’m watching Killers of a flower Moon and DL English Subs from Opensubtitle. When I covert I’ve overwritten all the subs when they speak the Osage language. It seems to me that this is important dialogue.

Is there any way to avoid this or are there any subs I can DL that has it all and if so how are they described in their title?

I have hard time to understand this post. What you mean overwriting other subtitles ? Which program you are using...?

You all would probably rate me as a novice but these are the steps I take.
1. DL a mkv file
2. Find an srt subtitle file
3. Use Skysoft Video converter to convert to mp4 while adding in the srt subtitle file.

Here is where the issue is. Speaking about the move Killers of the Flower Moon, once I've done the above conversion, the srt file / subs I added have now overwritten anything the movie had originally. So now, I can not see the onscreen subtitles of the people when speaking the Osage language which I know is in the original film.

Hope this makes more sense.

probably you have to export all subtitle tracks and add them with extra subtitle tracks you want to add...

I dont use that program, co I can not really comment on it

If I understand correctly, you are trying to hardcode all subs, both forced and parent language.

Dump the .mkv into mkvtoolnix and check to determine what existing subtitle files are present, most probably the forced subtitle for the Osage speaking parts, from what I can gather from your post. If you need to edit any of the existing subtitle files, use mkvextract to pull the files.

You can then add edited or additional subtitle files within the .mkv container. You can view as an .mkv file on most players. An example to use is SMPlayer, which will allow you to run two subtitle streams simultaneously. You can then preview the combination of forced and your selected subtitles. Any location, OCR, sync or grammar/spelling errors can be addressed prior to format conversion.

Am not familiar with the iSkysoft converter. Most video editors though will recognize all subtitles within this container format.

Combining and exporting might require multiple steps, depending on your apps subtitles’ options. You might be required to do stages if it only addresses one subtitle selection; an initial hardcoded video conversion for the Osage parts, then a follow up for hardcoding your selected subtitles.

An alternative option would be to use a video editor such as Handbrake. This gives you options for “Forced”, “Burn In” and “Default” for all subtitle selections prior to conversion.

My recollection is that subtitle format of .srt is required for the hardcoded option.
