It is the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) number for the movie that corresponds to the subtitle you want to upload. It is how OpenSubtitles.org is organized. You can get the number by searching here on this site or directly from IMDB (http://www.imdb.com). You must have this number in order to upload a subtitle.
For example, the IMDB url for the Marx Brothers film, "A Day At The Races" is the following:
