Please tell me that search function is not that stupid!

Tue Jul 08, 2008 10:34 pm

Hello, pelase can you do something with the search function? It is almost useles. I am desperately trying to find some subtitles for star trek tng and no matter what I type in, it finds Kung-fu panda or other total nonsense... Can you please tell me how this "works" or should work? Cannot it simply search for all words I type? :o How can I find for example star trek S04E08? It still finds stargate atlantis and other "popular" movies and series but really nothing close to my search! The advanced search is no better. Subtitles size? Haha what use can I have for it? Why cannot we search for the movie size if it is written in some subtitles info? PLEASE tell me that there is some easy way to use this and that this site is not totaly useless then...
Tell me how would you look for this:
http://www.opensubtitles.com/en/subtitl ... eration-en
If you type EXACTLY the name of the subtitle, you won't find it. I don't get it...

Word of advice: A better attitude would go a long way towards getting help.

I'm not sure what you did, but writing "star trek the next generation" dumped me in this page:

http://www.opensubtitles.com/en/search/ ... movie-1744

And that is just typing and pressing enter. Gawd knows what could happen if your original post hadn't put me in a bad mood and I was actually trying to help you.

I am sorry about the bad attitude, but trust me I was REALLY desperate and upset by that time :( And also because this is the second time I complain here (did not get any usefull answer before) If you woudl please read the whole post, you would see what I mean. Of course you can find this list of episodes, but try to find one particular! Even if you know the episode name, you have a very poor chance, because it works in mysterious ways...try it and you will see

OpenSubtitles doesn't have proper support for TV series yet in the website. This is stated in several threads, as well as in entries in the main blog. This means it's not easy finding single episodes in a single search. You have to search for TV Show and then look for the episode in the results.

Now, OpenSubtitles has a web search that is, actually, secondary to the best way it has of searching for subtitles, which is using one of the many clients available:
http://trac.opensubtitles.org/projects/ ... itles/wiki

These clients DO NOT search using the file name or the series name. They search through a unique "fingerprint" (called a hash) for the videofile (and that's where your insulted "filesize" comes into play, as well as other fields like "movie hash").

Do yourself a favor and use a client. You'll see an ocean of difference and your life will be much better. We'll also benefit as you won't be berating the forum (which, no matter how it looks like, has no obligation to help you. This is all made by people out of their own time and for free so demanding support is a little out of place).

Sory if I'm stern but it's really upsetting to find a post like yours. It's pretty hard to react well to it.
