[subdownloader] Fail to start on Ubuntu 7.04 amd64

Tue May 15, 2007 8:55 pm

Hi there, I'm looking for some hint on how to solve my problems starting subdowloader 1.2.9 on my ubuntu 7.04 for amd64.

I've installed the package through the repository but after the splash screen pops up i receive this error:

Code: Select all

Error XMLRPC loggin in at http://www.opensubtitles.org/xml-rpc
Maybe i miss some packages? :?

I've tried running subdowloader from sources, but this failed too. This is the shell output:

Code: Select all

X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 170 Major opcode: 148 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0 Failed to open device X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 170 Major opcode: 148 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0 Failed to open device Traceback (most recent call last): File "./SubDownloader.py", line 396, in <module> SubDownloaderApp = MainApp(0) File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/wx-2.6-gtk2-unicode/wx/_core.py", line 7700, in __init__ self._BootstrapApp() File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/wx-2.6-gtk2-unicode/wx/_core.py", line 7352, in _BootstrapApp return _core_.PyApp__BootstrapApp(*args, **kwargs) File "./SubDownloader.py", line 383, in OnInit self.SubDownloaderWindow = SubDownloaderFrame.MainFrame(self,None, -1, "") File "/home/gunnm/tmp/subdownloader/SubDownloaderFrame.py", line 123, in __init__ self.__do_layout() File "/home/gunnm/tmp/subdownloader/SubDownloaderFrame.py", line 192, in __do_layout self.panel_options = PanelOptions.PanelOptions(self.book,-1) File "/home/gunnm/tmp/subdownloader/PanelOptions.py", line 23, in __init__ self.notebook = wx.Notebook(self, -1, style=wx.BK_DEFAULT) AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'BK_DEFAULT'
Hope this may help to solve the problem. Thanks in advance! :)

PS: The program rocks! I've tried the windows version and it is a great piece of software!!

hello,

if it write it cannot connet to website (XML RPC ERROR), it means, website is down...or something. If this happens, check www.opensubtitles.org - it shouldnt work. I tried subdownloader right now and it works without any problems.

That second error - I dont know man :( will ask Capiscuas...also there is good news about subdownloader, stay tuned:)

Hi there, I'm looking for some hint on how to solve my problems starting subdowloader 1.2.9 on my ubuntu 7.04 for amd64.
To be precise, it is Kubuntu 7.04 amd64 and Subdownloader 1.2.8 (from the .deb package).

If I can help (some tests, compiling etc.) for the 64bit architecture, please let me know how. It'll be a pleasure. :)

i'm having the same problem on an i386-32 architecture, installed using the .deb file.. i don't think it's about the arch, anyway!

is it normal that if i try to connect via http to
http://www.opensubtitles.org/xml-rpc
i get a

Code: Select all

status 409 Method not found seconds 0.171000
error?

thanks :)

Same problem here, kubuntu feisty. I'm in a 32-bit machine, so this is not the problem. I also have both failures, using the package and the sources.

My system is dual core, it this could matter...

1.2.8 obsolete

Fri Jul 06, 2007 7:17 pm

the version 1.2.8 deb package has some probles, pls run the last version 1.2.9 from sources.

The good news is that we are preparing the version 2.0 of Subdownloader based on the QT libraries with new interface and more prepared for linux.

Same problem

Tue Oct 02, 2007 2:53 am

I am having the same problem. (using Feisty-32bit as well)

But these were my steps.

1. Installed the source 1.2.9 - Run OK.
2. Deleted source
3. Installed the .dev package for 1.2.8 - NOT WORKING
4. Deleted 1.2.8 package.
5. Installed again the sour 1.2.9 - NOT WORKING

For all NOT WORKING I got the same error. on 1.2.9 (that I can see the terminal) I get the same output of gunnm_77.

Not sure if the .deb package leaves some files that are corrupting.. or something.. I am kinda of new to Linux, so I cant help debugging more.

But If someone finds the solution, pls let me know... I am missing a lot subdowloader (a lot of subs to upload/download).

Thanks in advance.
Let me know if I can help on the new version test as well.

Re: Same problem SOLVED

OK, problem was probably in conflict between python-wxgtk2.6 and python-wxgtk2.8. After removing 2.6 i can use source Subdownloader 1.2.9.

P.S: Xubuntu

Solution

Tue Mar 04, 2008 7:47 pm

I know I'm replying to an old topic, but if it may help anyone who reads this:

I deleted the whole folder where I extracted the zip file, i "unzipped" the file again... (just do the install over from the beginning)

I don't get anymore errors now :)

Subdownloader: 0

You can try to install Subdownloader2.0 to see if that fixes the problem.

https://launchpad.net/subdownloader/
