JSONP / CORS with the API

I've been looking for forever and I can't find a way to access the API from javascript.
Since any other site would need a CORS/JSONP request for the same-origin policy not to block it ,
does the API in any way support those protocols?

Otherwise I just cannot implement the API in my system since it's all web-based..

Second question:
I'm not sure what the format of the subtitles which i get from "DownloadSubtitles" in the API..

I need WebVTT format for playback , what is it I'm getting?
is there a way to choose how the data is formatted ?
