Burning dvd. VOB.FILE or AVI?

Hello..I need help burning a movie from my computer. The file is VOB. and I wonder whether I have to convert it to AVI? cause I have NERO rom that I just downloaded and the file doesn't show at all when I search for it. The others, avi and wmv do. I read somewhere that VOB. is supposed to be burned to dvd. Thanks for the time you use for answering me. I hope I gave enough info to receive help. Thanks!
