Subtitles stop working half way through film

I am using VLC to try and watch the discreet charm of he bourgeoisie.
i have the french dvd with no english subtitles.

i downloaded an srt file from this site and it worked until half way through the film.

at 1.05.39 the the subs stop working.
i have tried using a couple of other srt files but they all stop working at this point.
i think it might be when the DVD layer changes.

has anyone had any similar problems and doesanyone know how to solve this?
