Strange Problem uploading spanish subs

Sat Jul 02, 2011 1:33 am

Hello.

I am having strange issues when I try to upload subtitles.

Most of the subtitles in spanish I upload give me an error, but in other languages with special characters there's no issue.

For example, watch this screenshot:

http://cl.ly/87DL

There you can see several subtitles I have uploaded. You can see there are subs in spanish, greek and french (so it's not a problem with special chars). I have checked the files and they're all ISO8859-1 with DOS line endings:

http://cl.ly/86oG

Yet all the ones in Spanish are not uploaded. If I try to upload them I get the same message for all:

402 Subtitles has invalid format

I don't understand why this could be happening. It doesn't happen to really special characters like greek, nor to french. The line endings are not different nor is the encoding.

What checks are there made internally that could be making these subtitles fail?

I include here an example of the subtitles: http://cl.ly/87Hw
Also, the XML the program sent to upload, with the subtitle gzipped and base64-encoded: http://cl.ly/86qb

I'm not sure what else to see. I can't find anything wrong with the file myself. And the error is a bit generic.

I don't get what could be wrong with these files. I tried uploading this: http://cl.ly/875d and didn't have a problem: http://www.opensubtitles.org/en/subtitl ... ce-nine-es

I checked it. I don't think it's the same. I can upload alright. I can even upload to that same movie. The error is an actual error in XML from OpenSubtitles. As if it had processed the subtitle and given an error. I think only someone with access to the backend would be able to tell from the logs.

I've deployed a new version of SolEol that uploads properly the subs. An after effect of being a lot more strict is getting this error on some subtitles (to be fair, it's for a bunch of subtitles I got from somewhere else. They may have something the parser from OS doesn't like.
