Bug: Hash submitter is credited as uploader

Thu Jan 14, 2010 12:38 am

Whenever I submit a movie hash (with Subdownloader) for subtitles that were uploaded anonymously, I appear as the uploader of these subs. This is wrong. To submit a hash, I only do a quick check if the subs are in sync with the movie file. I don't check them for accuracy and I don't want to adopt them or be credited for them.

Workaround: I've found that I can remove my name in "Correct subtitles", and they become anonymous again. Still, it shouldn't happen in the first place.

this is not bug, thats feature :) I got request for this time ago, so I did it, of course I can remove it, but I think there is nothing bad on it, maybe more people can vote and we will see.

If there is Anonymous upload, and you upload hash as first, it means, if there was no subtitles you will be uploader. What is wrong with this ?

Half of the value of OpenSubtitles are the subtitles, the other half are the hashes the users upload. Until there's a different metric for hashers than uploaders I agree that anonymous subtitles that get hashed should give credit to the hasher.

Likewise, bad hashing is a plague and only knowing who did it can we let people know they might be doing it wrong.
