See the difference?

Mon Dec 18, 2006 10:33 am

Does anyone see the difference between this IMBD url:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407362/

and this one:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0887221/

I totally suggest that we use the second url above, because then we have the information for the episode season, episode number and episode title. I do that. I am not so sure it is well supported in the site, though.

The issue of the episode meta data is quite important.

you can use first or second...but I prefer first, I think it is more logic.

Actually the second if more logical, as it applies to BOTH the series and the specific season and episode. This could help a lot afterwards if automatic naming could be done (I always rename the files, as the original usually are horrendous).

IMDB is also revamping their size and you can see that episodes are linked to the actual series:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407362/episodes

Which makes it perfect for grouping.

If the problem is the grouping in the database (I still think using IMDB should be optional, as it's just metadata) then it can be stored as it was done for ID3 tags, that evolved and now support better fields. In the case of series (or movie sagas, even) it could be flagged as such and both IDs, the one of the series and the one of the episode be used.

yes, you have right. I have to code this, nad this will be quite huge change. Problem is, Perl module for IMDB I am currently using doesnt support episodes.
