hello, introduction and big thx

Sat Apr 03, 2010 8:19 pm

The same text in english follows after this one

Since a few years I'm a "silent" user and since about one year a "silent" uploader too. Today I decided to register myself, to say the other members, uploaders and other supporters of this side: "Big Thanks". :D

I thank you for various film experiences from countrys all over the world, which I could enjoy, because this project here supplies understandable english and sometimes also german subtitles.

Sometimes german DVDs features no german subs, or only in various foreign languages, except german. :-(
If there exists english ones, this is not a problem, because then I use the english ones. If only other languages exist, it will be difficult.
And sometimes the "official" translation of german subs is horrible.

Therefore, I've begun about a year ago, to make german subtitles for movies, if on the discs are none or only bad "official ones" exists.
The subs that I create, are all about movies, that I like very much. Otherwise I wouldn't do this work.
It costs a few hours, but if you has made it a few times, it's a kind of routine. Most of the time I work on the subs about 14 days and translate around 50 Items every day. (but sometimes a lot more) Therefore the work does not look so enormous and does not cost to much time every day.
Furthermore it is not important, if I need sometimes more time for the translation, because I do not work on the subs for a few days for different reasons.

 My reason to create german subtitles is, that I look basically non-german films in the original language (with subtitles, if available) and I know many people, who do it the same. Unfortunately, as I said, some german subs has no good quality for different reasons. Sometimes I have the impression, that the "official" translator has never ever seen the movie itself and produced the translation only with a pure script.

However, I can't suffer sloppy work. If someone makes something, he should make it good. Subs that are different to the original dialogue in every second phrase are as bad as a wrong german dubbing or also censor-cuts, because they provide something different to the consumer than the filmmaker actually wanted.
I'm a movie fan since over 30 years and something, that bothers me mighty, is movie-censorship, neither visually nor acoustically.
My impulse to translate and upload subtitles is to be happy to see a movie almost "genuine" and also make this possible to others.

The creation of subtitles is not too difficult, if you have a little time and enjoy to translate the language of the "source file" as exactly as possible into another one. I think, my English is not the baddest, but I still see for various items how to translate three, four selected online-translation-sites a particular term, to make sure, it's the right translation and the right sense behind the words.
Because you can use certain words in a dialouge, you should not simply declare something similar as a translation. In every language there are different words to say something specific. And depending on which word you use, you have a certain connotation, that can depreciate or revalue the sense for instance.
Therefore, I personally find it important to make accurate translations.

At last the making of subtitles is not such a difficult job. And if you has made it a few times, you get a certain routine.
Nevertheless it needs time and effort. But if something makes fun...
Therefore I will continue to create German subtitles and submit here.

If someone is interested in some of my earlier translations, here is a list of it, uploaded here anonymous in the last months.

Sincerely
Arcchancellor

PS: Please forgive my mistakes in the text above, but the other direction "english ---> german" is easier for me.
