Why/when I need "Manual Shift" or "Automatic Shift Analyzer"?

Fri Dec 30, 2016 12:53 pm

L.S.,

I am a bit confused why I would need "Manual Shift" or "Automatic Shift Analyzer" when subtitles are synchronized automatically?

Hey Wil,

Did you try it?
Since this isn't an exact science, the Analyzer has a fail rate of about 5%. So instead of doing it for you (and possibly making things worse) it will tell you what it thinks is the best amount to shift up or down. That way, the final decision if up to you.

If you click the Analyze button, it will try to find the best position for the subtitles. If you agree, click Shift and Save. If you don't agree or the analyzer isn't able to figure it out, use the manual Shift.

Hope that helps

MarcoTC,

Thanks for the explanation. I did try the automatic shift analyser and so far it has worked fine. I initially was under the impression that the subtitles would be synchronized as they were downloaded, but that is not the case, right?

I also have a request, not sure if it's possible, synchronizing multiple subtitles at once. There would be a analyse all and save all option.

P.S. Is a Windows version still in the cards?

Hello Wil,

No, subtitles aren't synchronized automatically when downloaded.

I think it's best to try to download the correct subtitle with the release of your video. That way, you should only have to use the synchronize option when there isn't a synced one available.

FlixTools tries to download the right subtitles but if it downloaded the wrong one (correct but out of sync) I would pick another one from another sync group. (The different sync groups have the different color dots next to each available subtitles)
When they're all wrong and out of sync, only then I go through the hassle of synchronizing.

There is no batch mode and Save All right now. However (if your machine can handle it) you can analyze multiple videos at the same time. A shortcut is arrow down through the list and then Option-A when the subtitle is fully loaded.

Hope that helps.

MarkoTC,

Thanks again for the further explanation. Took me a while to understand the last bit about analysing multiple videos at the same time, but got there eventually. Yesterday did see an example where automatic shift did not work.
