Website login ok - Opensub by application not working

Sun Aug 18, 2019 12:06 pm

I hope it's possible to help me with this problem. I can login on the website opensubtitles.org, but usage with applications like Filebot, Kodi and BSPlayer doesn't work anymore. This used to work since yesterday 17-08 flawlessly. On this day i changed my mailadres and password. And offcause i changed these in the apps aswell. (Many times to assure error). All 3 apps the same time tells me there is nothing wrong within the apps i should say.

Errors I get:

Filebot: Filebot: The response could not be parsed.
Kody: Error searching for subtitles. Your opensubtitles.org username or password is empty or not valid.
BSPlayer: Fout opensubtitles.org

Things i tried:

1. Use with VPN against blocked ip.
2. Changed DNS in router to 1.1.1.1
3. Used https://api.opensubtitles.org/xml-rpc comes back with: ......Webserver is down........Error reference number: 521 etc.
4. Deleted plugin in Kodi, installed again and configured.
5. Created new account with other user, pass and mailadres.
6. etc. (what things i found with google)

All options no result.
I am playing arround with this already for many hours, i hope somebody can help me with this problem.

Greetings,
Frank

I am having the same problem the OP had a month ago. Since yesterday, Kodi gives the error message: Your opensubtitles.org username or password is empty or not valid. Even though I know the user/pass is correct.

From reading other posts, I assume that the opensubtitles add-on to Kodi is erroneously giving that error message when the real problem is that the opensubtitles API is down, right? Whose responsibility would it be to fix that?

I realize you have other fish to fry, and real lives that need time...

But if you feel in a creative mood, consider adding a "TEST API" button on the main site home page... or just an automatic message that says "API Status: UP or DOWN.

hi,

it is very easy to test, if somebody go to https://api.opensubtitles.org/xml-rpc and see if there is some response or error message.

For several weeks now, I can not access opensubtitles.org from BsPlayer.
It was fine before.
Trying https://bsplayer.api.opensubtitles.org/xml-rpc gives "parse error. not well formed".

for bsplayer.api.opensubtitles.org it is not working, because of SSL cert. expiration. We are configuring it now, so it will work. For now have to use http only for this domain.

with https it shows:
This site can’t provide a secure connectionbsplayer.api.opensubtitles.org uses an unsupported protocol.

I just noticed that I can no longer download subs via Kodi 18.5 Leia on a Shield TV. I was using Opensubtitles add-on v5.0.16 with my pre-existing Opensubtitles username and password. I started getting the 'username and password are blank or incorrect' error so I updated to v5.2.14. Now I get an error that the search failed. I've tried with and without a username and password. I get the same error, regardless.

This is what I get if I browse to https://api.opensubtitles.org/xml-rpc:

---
<methodResponse>
<params>
<param>
<value>
<struct>
<member>
<name>status</name>
<value>
<string>parse error. not well formed</string>
</value>
</member>
<member>
<name>seconds</name>
<value>
<double>0.001</double>
</value>
</member>
</struct>
</value>
</param>
</params>
</methodResponse>
---

So is the api working? How do I troubleshoot?
