[Request Support .SRT] File displays Timestamp in video?

Thu May 01, 2025 8:53 pm

Greetings, everyone, and well met.

First some information:
My system:
Company PC:
OS: Win 11 Enterprise LTSC IoT 24H2 b:26100.3775, registered to the company.
Notepad:
New Notepad system (with the tabs).
VLC:
V: 3.0.21 Vetinari

This is the first time for me, that I wrote an .SRT file, followed guides, but an oddity happened:
When I start the video (A music file, "Killer Klowns - Down In The Park [A Gary Numan Cover]", red.), for which I made the subtitle file, the file loads ... but then does not display the text, rather only the first bit of the Time Stamp.
The .SRT content below followed by a YouTube link to the song, red.
From what I understand, the content is correctly written, and should display correctly in VLC, still ... .

This I wrote, where 1 is an "intro" displaying the group and song name, and from 2 on, the lyrics (without the Quotes, red.):
"1
00:01:00:000 --> 00:00:15:000
Killer Klowns - Down In The Park
[A Gary Numan Cover]

2
00:00:43:000 --> 00:00:49:000
Down in the park where the Machmen meet
the machines and play 'Kill by Numbers.

3
00:00:50:000 --> 00:00:53:000
Down in the park with a friend called Five.

4
00:00:56:000 --> 00:01:02:000
I was in a car crash or was it the war?
I've never been quite the same.

5
00:01:03:000 --> 00:01:06:000
Little white lies like I was there.

6
00:01:34:000 --> 00:01:40:000
Come to Zom-Zom's, a place to eat.
Like it was built in one day.

7
00:01:410:000 --> 00:01:45:500
You can watch the humans trying to run.

8
00:01:47:000 --> 00:01:52:500
Oh look, there's a rape machine ... ,
I'd go outside if it'd looked the other way.

9
00:01:53:000 --> 00:01:57:500
You wouldn't believe the things they do.

10
00:02:51:000 --> 00:02:75:500
Down in the park where the chant is death, death, death,
until sun cries morning.

11
00:02:58:300 --> 00:03:01:300
Down in the park with friends of mine.

12
00:03:04:000 --> 00:03:09:600
We are not lovers, we are not romantics,
we are here to serve you.

13
00:03:09:900 --> 00:03:15:000
A different face but the words never change."

Could someone please help me out with this?
I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance:

I think(!) all the problem is because the formatting of your time codes is wrong
It should NOT be
00:01:00:000 --> 00:00:15:000
but instead
00:01:00,000 --> 00:00:15,000

Important tip: avoid the beginner's mistake to write an SRT-file all by yourself in notepad or so. Instead use subtitling software, like the excellent, free and open source Subtitle Edit. See www.nikse.dk

Not only these kind of technical mistakes will not occur anymore, but this software also hosts a zillion other features, making it much easier to make a good subtitle.
Nowadays a VPN is a must for everyone. A VPN allows you safe surfing and protects you against spying governments and companies.
I recommend AirVPN - from € 2,75 per month. Click the below banner for more info.

That was meant to be...
It should NOT be
00:01:00:000 --> 00:00:15:000
but instead
00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:15,000
