Uploading amended or new English subs question.

Sat Apr 05, 2025 2:07 pm

Hi, over the winter months I have downloaded lots of .srt files from the site as I have been adding hard subtitles to my extensive film and tv collection due to my now failing hearing. This is a great site with some top notch contributors. 95% of the time I find a few subtitles that I try against my film/tv series and find a suitable match which is great. However occasionally (usually for the older films and tv) I find maybe 1 or 2 files for the title, sometimes none, and sometimes what is there is nothing like what the soundtrack for the film/tv is. So over this time I have become reasonably adept at using the SubEdit program to correct or create new files or indeed resynched and edited what was available to me at the time. I once tried to upload a file but struggled with understanding the process (bear with me I am 66 years old and by no means a computer whizz). I was struggling filling in some of the required fields as I didn't fully understand so I failed miserably. This is my first post in this forum and it is mainly to ask this question. Is there someone on here that I could mail my .srt files to who could upload them for me, it seems such a shame that the hours I have spent editing/creating these files is not contributing to the site where some other users may get some benefit from my work. If this is at all an option I would gladly send my files for others to be able to use if its possible.
Thanks for reading
regards
Keith

Howdy keefymonoped,

Thanks for reaching out, hopefully can provide you some direction and get you uploading.

Some general guidelines for English subtitles are available at link:

viewtopic.php?p=52269#p52269

We ask that any contributions try to follow basic guidelines for subtitles. Not asking for perfection from our members, just a reasonable compliance to accepted standards of subtitle formatting.

Also refer to links:

https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/upload
viewtopic.php?p=8270&hilit=submitting#p8270

Shows the various fields and a description of their requirements that are used in uploading, edit/corrections, and in generating reports.

I would suggest first perusing through and familiarizing yourself with the basic quality requirements for subs, site navigation and the various inputs fields.

Any questions, then feel free to contact me via PM forum mail with any that might arise.

Hope this helps gets you started, and welcome aboard.
