Basically, a side wide policy of OpenSubtitles is to NOT accept machine translations like Google Translate etc. See this topic.

Personally, I am not very fond of machine translations (to say the least) for several reasons. As admin of the Dutch language section, I will delete machine translations as soon as I spot them.

But:
- Admins of other language sections may have a different policy.
- Translating technology improved, so it is more difficult to spot them.
- Some language sections do not have any admin at all, so all uploads stay, including the very worst subtitles.

So, as a user you can help:
- Report subs if they are machine translations.
- Mark the subs as "bad" and write a comment WHY you think they are machine translations.

And please oh please:
Subtitles with mistakes is NOT the same as Google subs. Keep in mind that inexperienced translators may make mediocre or even bad subtitles, but still, they did do their best and they did spend many hours in making those subs. It is very insulting and demotivating to hear your hard and time consuming work is being compared to the one-minute-job of Google & Co.
So: use the 'bad' marking and the words "Google translate" very carefully and reluctantly.
Nowadays a VPN is a must for everyone. A VPN allows you safe surfing and protects you against spying governments and companies.
I advise AirVPN - from € 2,75 per month. Click the below banner for more info.
