Message Repeatedly says No Subtitles Found

Mon Dec 21, 2020 3:34 am

Hello, new to the Forum and hope someone can help me shed some light on this problem.
Using Nvidia Shield latest version, Syncler app set to use MX player as default player and running Nord VPN.
The problem example I'll use is searching online for subtitles for "The Undoing", season 01, episode 06. I have downloaded the video file from within Syncler, and it begins playing without subtitles.

I have registered with OpenSubtitles.org and have signed in.

I click on the 3 dots upper right, and click on Subtitles > Search > Online. Select check box for search text and filename of downloaded video file appears. Click <OK> and after some time, message is "No Subtitles Found".
Somewhere I read that it helps to remove all but the beginning of the name of the show you want the subtitles for, so I edited the search text down to "the.undoing.s01.e06", with same result. Then trimmed the text down to just "the.undoing", no luck. Thought perhaps the "dot" was a problem, so entered "The Undoing", but still no subtitles found.

It seems with other series I have streamed this way that many, many subtitles showed up in the search results, so I am wondering what's wrong in this case. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

For which language are you searching? If English, I think the answer is clear:
See https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/search ... uageid-eng
There are four subtitles available BUT none of these subtitles have a so-called hash code. Without a hash code API software cannot find the subs.

To clarify better, now have a look at for example S01E01:
https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/search ... id-9256866
There are FOUR subtitles actually present, but only TWO have a hash code, see the small yellow star:

Probably your player CAN find subs for episode 1 and probably (only) two.
