I have questio (problem) with SW 2.51, he won't to play mp.4 files from ok.ru/video site. As I remember, with some it works, with some it does not. With file for Nixon (1995) does not, so I must first conert him in mkv..
Am I missing some codec, maybe?

I would advice Subtitle Edit and using VLC player as embedded video player. With me, VLC has not ever had any problems to play any video file, so, resulting, neither did Subtitle Edit. That would solve your problem.

VLC player is embedded video player, and that confusing me most. Subtitle Edit has never been close to my work.

As far as I know, Subtitle Workshop is not maintained anymore.
Why not give Subtitle Edit with VLC a try? SE is even as portable available.

But first you should try if that video file is playable directly in VLC. If not, then it wouldn't work in any embedded situation neither.

I'm very confusing. Right now I have several mp.4 files,
A Stranger in Town (1943), Hoodlum Empire (1952),...
all playable in SW. Way exist exeptions?

The difference can be in the codec being used. And of course, any file can also just be corrupt.

The thing is, VLC by itself should be able to play the video. If it does, than it should be possible to use your video editor with VLC as embedded player. But if VLC alone is not able to play the video, then that's the end of the story and it is not an issue of SW or SE.

This is also strange, I think I mantion that before. VLC alone play it, but not as embedded player in SW.
