there's a lot of ways....

3 questions:

1 - what software are you using to watch the movie?
2 - what's the movie format (extension)?
3 - what's the subtitles format (extension)?

I never used VLC....
but there's probably some kind of config to fix this....
have you tried to drag and drop the .srt file inside the movie while it's playing?

I can think of 2 options...
either install vobsub :P
or use bsplayer...

I assume vobsub is 100% guaranteed...
and it will make the subs appear on any player...

Hi.

Playing subtitles with VLC :

open the file with CTRL F :
click on file tab, and browse for video file

Tick the subtitles option box, click on settings, in the window that opens, browse for the srt file.

click ok, ok again, play file :)

As for the mux that you did, i'm afraid you might have broken the video file.
(you added a stream with vobsub that can't be read, this option never worked properly)

it can be repaired though, but you will need to use VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.n
(you probably have it already, otherwhise you'll find a standalone version either on www.doom9.org or www.digital-digest.com/software.

Anyhow, open the video file with vdubmod,

- if the index is broken, vdub will take a looong time opening as it has to reconstruct it.

You might get a message if the soundtrack has been encoded in VBR "VirtualDub has detected an impoper VBR Audio Encoding..." make sure you answer NO

- 1st go to stream -> stream list
check that you have only the soundtrack.
if you have something else select it and click on "disable"
then right click on the sountrack and make sure "Direct stream copy" is selected. Click ok

then go to video and select "direct stream copy"

then hit F7 and save as a new file. It should take 2 to 5 minutes, depending.

check the new file is readable,
trash the old one..

go back to beginning of message to read with subtitles in vlc.

(with BSplayer : give the subtitles the same name as the video (ie film.srt = film.avi) in the same directory, play the file with bsplayer, the subtitles will play automatically)

Subtitles in VLC

Wed Nov 29, 2006 5:14 pm

open the file with CTRL F :
click on file tab, and browse for video file
Tick the subtitles option box, click on settings, in the window that opens, browse for the srt file.
That's right, but maybe your subtitles still didn't appear on the screen...

Go to menu SETTINGS - PREFERENCES... - Video - Subtitles/OSD
1. In the right low corner check "Advanced options"
2. Then check "Enable subpictures" in the left upper corner (Otherwise VLC doesn't show any subtitles)

Go to menu SETTINGS - PREFERENCES... - Video - Subtitles/OSD - Text renderer
1. In the right low corner, check "Advanced options"
2. Set font
3. Set the font size
4. Set text color

SAVE AND RESTART VLC to take effect
