Subs for -peeeeep- are not matching

Sun Oct 28, 2018 8:40 pm

I am looking for season 4 and up Spanish subs for [removed by SmallBrother]. All the subs I have downloaded so far from all over the web have issues with syncing up after a commercial break and I have to adjust the timing on my WD TV player to get it to match up again.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

Muchísimas gracias!

I have removed the text indicating the exact series you are talking about.
Because it would be kind of a request - and the forum is not for requests.

But I think I have a general answer to your question.

Typically, episodes of tv shows are released as web-downloads or as tv-rips. The episodes broadcasted on tv include commercial breaks, which are cut out from the releases. The web downloads don't have those.

I think you are using a subtitle which is synchronized for web-download videos and you are using it for tv-rip videos (or vice versa). So obviously that goes wrong immediately after the first commercial break.

The answer is to use subtitles with the corresponding video release. In other words: using HDTV subtitles on a WED-DL video (or vice versa) is guaranteed to go wrong.

This is also the reason why it is important that uploaders include the correct and full corresponding release name.

Thank you for the reply. That is what I thought. Seems like no one has created .srt spanish sub files for the Bluray release of -peeeeeep- then as I have downloaded all... some that even say DVD version but they also don't seem to match my Blu ray discs that I have converted to .mkv videos for easier access on my networked devices in my theater. I guess I will need to learn how to create subs and start contributing to the community. :-)

That's why uploaders should mention a matching release - and downloaders should use that one.

The 'problem' with resyncing HDTV version subs for WEB-DL video and vice versa, is that it is not just a shift forward or backwards and/or changing frame rate. The resyncing should be done for every piece in between every ad-block. Still, with some experience this is not too much work anyway.

However, getting a DVD version subtitle matching a BluRay video, this shouldn't be too hard. Maybe only a shift, maybe only changing the frame rate, worst case scenario is both, or you can/have to do a socalled 'point sync'. This is having two matching points (at the start and at the end of the movie) and have all times in between adjusted accordingly. With subtitle software this can be done in a few minutes.

Yeah, why not. If you want that subtitle, most probably others want it too.

Subtitle Edit is free, open source, handy and brilliant.
