Problem downloading Subtitles

Sat Sep 29, 2018 6:26 pm

For some time now whenever I try to download subtitles I always get the error:
"The connection has timed out

The server at dl.opensubtitles.org is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

I've searched on the forum how to resolve this but couldn't find an answer.
I've tried changing browsers but without any positive result.
Ad-blocker is switched off.

Any ideas on how can I solve this?

Where these errors happen? Are you using any program to download or is it through the site?
I try with Chrome, Firefox and Opera and here its working well.

Try clean cookies and navigation data.

I meant through the Site. I'm always getting the page saying:
"The connection has timed out

The server at dl.opensubtitles.org is taking too long to respond."

I've tried through Firefox, Chrome and even IE. And I've cleaned all navigation data with CCleaner repeatedly.

I'm not using any programs to download the subtitles. maybe i could try that. What programs can I use to give it a try?

Anyway, downloading manually from the site is the most elementary way and should just work. And anyway, it looks like there is some problem on your side.

Maybe there is some problem with DNS resolving, firewall settings, browser settings, things like that.
Are other websites working well?
Try another computer on the same connection.
Clean your browser from cookies, history and cache.

Maybe you are connecting through a blacklisted IP address.
Are you using some VPN or proxy or so?
Try without that VPN.
Try changing to a different IP address.
Nowadays a VPN is a must for everyone. A VPN allows you safe surfing and protects you against spying governments and companies.
I advise AirVPN - from € 2,75 per month. Click the below banner for more info.

Yes I liked the site because everything is super organized unlike other subtitle sites.
Other sites like Subscene work correctly.
I'm not using any VPN. I've tried using Tor browser but it leads me straight to login page and then after verifying I'm not a robot and putting all my credentials, it won't let me log in. It goes back to a blank login page.
How can I check if it's a problem with DNS resolving?

As SmallBrother say downloading manually from the site is the most elementary way and should just work.

But, try this
http://www.opensubtitles.website . http://osdownloader.org or bsplayer

I narrowed in the problem. The thing is, that I can download without problems at work and at friends. So it must be something between my isp and opensubtitles' settings, that creates a conflict.

So the walkaround for those med download problems is to log on a different isp and try.

You mean using the same computer, same browser etc.?
Then I think your conclusion is correct.

Yes, the workaround would be a different provider, but you could first try using a different IP address:
- Sometimes, changing the Mac address of your router or network card (restart/reboot!) may result in a new IP address. "May", because this depends on your provider.
- You could ASK your ISP for a different IP address.
- Try some VPN provider, preferably a paid one (free VPNs could easily make thibgs wirse, like your try with Tor). Some paid VPN providers provide a free trial for a day or so or at very low cost.
Nowadays a VPN is a must for everyone. A VPN allows you safe surfing and protects you against spying governments and companies.

and I would add: try different browser or browser in incognito mode.
