CD 1 SRT meaning

Wed Apr 04, 2018 7:08 am

I see the following sometimes: "subtitles english 1CD" Example can be found at: https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/subtit ... je-mens-en

La verite si je mens! subtitles English
La vérité si je mens ! English subtitles (1997) 1CD srt

What does this mean? I know you have to match the subtitle to the type of movie so that it is in in synch and I usually have been able to work things out. But with this CD business I am not sure how it works. Sometimes I have seen CD 1 and CD 2 as well. Assistance is appreciated in advance.

Hi,

this is for history reasons, before there was released 1CD or multiple CD movie rips (avi that time), so subtitles was also split to more files. Nowadays there are just 1CD (1 file) rips so this information is kind of obsolete, but still needed for older releases.

Thanks.

So if the rip was from more than 1 CD then I need all the CD srts e.g. CD 1srt, CD 2 srt, etc.

Would all of these then be AVI format?

Also I am assuming that if it is a multiple CD movie I have to associate each CD with a different SRT file.

That's right. But the thing gets still more complex because you don't know at what point the film was cut.

As I see it, the file format has nothing to do with subtitles. With the proper software you can add the subtitle to the film no matter what format it is.

Have a look at https://forum.opensubtitles.org/viewtop ... =1&t=16418
