Re: Upload errors here

Fri May 03, 2019 3:47 pm

I understand what you are saying and I agree to quite some extend. I am not sure why this subtitle (and similar ones) are exactly rejected. I GUESS it's all those music characters, but it could be things like the few repeats "(MUFFLED SCREAMING)" around line 190 too. Although I think this SHOULD not be the problem.

This filter is against abuse, but at the same time it is also some kind of quality control. According to non-HI subtitling guidelines for many languages it is 'not done' to repeat the exact same text too often too close to each other. The idea is that the person watching the movie can hear/remember it is the exact same text, and then the subtitles don't make sense, since they actually only distracting instead of added value. But yes, that is the case for NON-HI. For HI subs, repeating makes all sense. And yes, it should not be that you have to work around some filter, resulting in a lower quality subtitle.

I think those lines with ♪ are the problem. See for example lines 95-154 with 30 times "♪♪♪" in 60 lines... So you could do a little experiment:
Remove all those lines with ♪ signs (nothing more) and see if you can upload. If you can, than my above solution would be a good one, allowing you to upload good (HI) subs, but further keep the filter.
Sure, I'll give it a try sometime to test. But the problem is, I do these early in the morning and since there are multiple new movies, I don't exactly have the time to go through all of them to check for these, especially when they are sometimes 2000 lines. And right after doing them, I have to go to work, so I'm sort of on a tight schedule.

I understand. But a small test is what I am saying: only one time with this subtitle and only removing the lines with ♪
Then we know if this is the problem. Not for you to change your method or the subs, but for us to see if that filter could/should be changed (and thn up to Oss if he wants to change it). Because you upload loads of subs, and this problem happens only now and then (right?)

I think it has to do with the repeating of all the [audience laughing] notations.

Anyway, as admin I managed to upload it without problems.

I have set it to your account, you can add/change any metadata.

One more example of a subtitle being rejected but should NOT be rejected...

I have uploaded the subs:
https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/subtit ... -in-hot-en

Seems to me another example of good subs being rejected because of many repeating HI notations like
[laughter]

So, *this* specific problem is solved, but I think we need a structural solution, because these are just good subs...

The only good solution will be the system ignoring this check for trusted users. And even for normal users, I'd suggest an admin confirm system so that people won't have to come here and request their subs to be uploaded, but then again this should take more time to be implemented.

Yeah, obviously this is not the best method ;-)

I think an admin confirm system is not good, not practical. A hell of a job, some language section don't have an admin, etc... Skipping the test for Trusted and Sub Translators is an idea. Personally I think I would go for a fine-tuning of the test, for example ignoring text between brackets, possibly combined with considering the "HI" mark.

But I'm sure oss can think of better solutions and besides, he is the only one to change or implement anything.

ok I implemented (not tested...) removing stuff like [laughter] and also trusted users should be able to upload without this kind of check.

Hello,
I uploaded "The.Sender.1998.720p.BluRay.x264-SPOOKS" with this IMDb;
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0138089/

But I see source bluray and scene group used wrong(1998) year, right year is "1982".

Proof;

I disabled it, trying to right IMDb ID but can't uploaded it.
