Re: guidelines for subs

Personally, I follow the Code of Good Subtitling Practice, which is endorsed by the European Association for Studies in Screen Translation.

Re: same-words-than-synchronisation-subs

Anyway, the problem is that all sub-files i found yet are not word-to-word the same as the spoken language. That is a fairly standard practice, especially when the actors are talking too fast. See the Code of Good Subtitling Practice (a pdf file), which says: The number of lines in any subtitle mus...

Re: Why should i use software for upload?

It does not seem to quite work. I uploaded Slovak subtitles for a movie (I actually had to listen to the soundtrack and type it all by hand because the DVD had no subtitles). Then I used SubDownloader to upload the hashes, and that worked just fine. I then translated the subs to English and uploaded...

Re: Help me help the subtitles community

Is there an application I can use to fix this? My own srtpal was designed just for that. But remember that a subtitle file may not be synced for you but it may have been perfectly synced for the author of that file. PAL movies usually run faster than NTSC movies, for example. And when it comes to T...

Nah, it's not that you are rude, Lob. It's, quite frankly, that you don't get it. To translate a dialog, which is what subtitles are, you have to be intimately familiar with the intricacies and subtleties, idioms and slang, of both languages. And you have to be a damn good writer. You have to unders...

Try renaming it to Mesrine.L.instinct.de.mort.2008.BRRip.XviD.AC3-CaLLioPE_MoNTEDiaZ-EN-TR-2CD.srt, so it has the .srt extension.

I see. Well, no, those movies do not have a thumbnail on imdb. I actually tried to upload one for one of those movies, and imdb asked me for my credit card number, so I did not do it.

Thumbnail

In most of my subtitles it says, No Thumbnail Yet. I could easily provide a thumbnail for most of them, but I do not see any "upload thumbnail" option.

So, how do I provide the thumbnails, and what should be their dimensions (width/height in pixels)?

Please, "preview" this subtitle as text.
Oh my goodness! It is so ridiculous that it is almost hilarious!

SRT files do not specify the font size, it is up to the application using them. That way everyone can (or should be able to) configure their applications according to their needs.

They seem in a rather strange format which shows when to start displaying each subtitle but not when to stop displaying it. I would try opening them in DivXLand Media Subtitler, or some other subtitle editor, and see if it can make some sense of them and convert them to the .srt format.

I just downloaded Kantaris today, so perhaps I have it misconfigured. Though I could not find any Internet settings in its interface. It comes with no documentation, and its interface must have been designed by someone with perfect 20/20 vision. :( Oh well.
