For those who want the gory details and speak Spanish, there's a discussion on ultimonivel.net . Wikitle was taken down because of a very generic email from some "copyright agency". Other sites got the same email but chose to ignore it. Wikitle published its source code, so now there are a...

I fullheartedly support your request. I can see some very limited use for automatic translations - if you're not sure whether you misheard a line, or if you want to grab the timecodes from some Chinese subs. But anyone can run a subtitles file through translate.google.com if they think they must, so...

wikitle.com down

The subtitles wiki site wikitle.com (ex wikisubtitles.net) has been suspended by the host. Here are the mirrors: http://www.wikisubtitles.enpuertoplata.com http://www.addic7ed.com discussion (in Spanish): http://www.seriesgringas.org/2008/10/about-wikitle.html edit 2008-10-17: addic7ed has also been...

sandboxed

The download page links to the addons.mozilla.org page for the extension, but mozilla.org requires registration before downloading the extension because it's in the "sandbox". So it would be better to link to the ovh.org page instead, if that's the permanent homepage. I guess it's sandboxe...

Here too. Maybe it's possible to queue comments through akismet? It works pretty well and fast, through a web api. For dumb spambots like this one it also helps to detect mass submission of comments with similar text.

very subjective answer

Depends on what you want... First, the file format isn't really that important. It's just a container. What matters more is how the streams (video, audio, ...) are encoded. Of course, not all containers allow all kinds of streams. GOOD container formats: mp4 (MPEG-4): The new international standard,...

I translated some strings into German, and now German appears in OSCAR's list, I can download it and switch to German, but everything is still in English and the downloaded .mo file contains no strings. Do I have to wait or is there some problem? Oh, and what does that green donut do? (no tooltip) h...

I see one possible problem: Episode numbering isn't always consistent. For example in the past season of "Bones" one episode was not aired (because it was about a college and there had been a shooting at a college...), and consequently the episode numbers got mixed up. Also sometimes the n...

There's a Polish group that names all their .sub (MicroDVD) subtitles as *.txt . They also use a slash instead of formatting tags such as {y:i} to mark italics, which may be a workaround for some subtitle editors that strip formatting. But I see no reason for the .txt extension, and I'm really glad ...

Thanks for the tip, I just tried Jubler and it looks nice. Does UTF-8 and doesn't mangle formatting, as far as I can see. If only it weren't in Java... _@_v

I don't know how to do it in python, but I guess you need to escape special characters in value before passing it to globals.Log . Or maybe use a different codec in the logger, like iso-8859-1 instead of ascii? Ascii by definition only goes up to 127. Deleting the config file works, but you lose all...

Login works again, thanks for the quick fix!

Yes, "remember me" often didn't work for me on Firefox, even though I enabled cookies for the domain.

login

I'm suddenly unable to log in through the web interface. When I submit the login form, I don't get an error message but I'm still not logged in. Reload doesn't help. It's only the web form on the main page - forum login and subdownloader login work, also when I follow a web link from subdownloader I...
