Re: guidelines for subs

I use dots at phrases that go over several items at the end of the first item and at the beginning of the next, because I have noticed that you read items with dots fluently, because the dots point out that the statement continues. In these cases I do not use commas, just the dots. Personally I don...

Re: Eng subtitles not same like eng speech

I try to do close transcriptions of the English audio so you can try mine. I found the same issue as you. In some way this is good because it facilitates reading. Frequently speech is redundant so you can just express the same idea with fewer words. Besides, there are a lot of words which don't carr...

Re: problem with multiple files in ZIP archive

I think it was http://dl.opensubtitles.org/en/download/sub/6162870 but I disabled it as SmallBrother told me to do.

Anyway I'd like to know how can you upload more than one file. So I know what I shouldn't do and don't do it again.

problem with multiple files in ZIP archive

The other day I uploaded some subtitles. Later I updated them but I added by mistake one more file. Don't ask me how I did it. So now the ZIP archive has two files in it with the same name. How can I delete the bad one? And what is the purpose of this feature? So you can fave different versions of t...

What is the meaning of "FPS" field in the web upload form?

Hi. I've been uploading subtitles for about one year and now, suddenly, I realise I don't quite understand the meaning of "FPS". Is it the fps of the video file or the fps of the subtitle file? With frame-based subtitle formats (e.g. MicroDVD with "SUB" extension) you have to kno...

Re: Convert encoding and format in realtime (WEBVTT support)

Yes, I think it is very interesting. I've been thinking about it lately. You can find a lot of "problems" or inconveniences that could be solved with dynamic download generation. That would mean more processing power. I don't know what is your server's load but I think it should be conside...

Re: English (Foreign parts only)

This is a problem not only with English but with any language. You have a good example here . This is a film with Spanish as main language. But there is a good deal of dialogues in French. You can't (at least I don't know how) differentiate one subtitle for the whole film from one for the foreign pa...

Re: How to auto create timstamp sub for home video

I guess subtitle editors are able to do this but I've only used Gaupol and I don't know how to do this with it. I don't know why would anyone want to show a subtitle every second. I think this is not a very common thing. If you know any programming language it is very easy to write a simple program ...

Re: Why do people subtitle movies?

I just did a quick statistical count of my uploads, a bit more than 100 subtitles were downloaded in total 120,000 times, average of 1000 per subtitle. I got one thank you for a subtitle I made on request and another thank you 'spontaneously'. Haha, pretty funny, eh ;-) I guess people are not very ...

[DE] Ich brauche Hilfe mit Transkript

Hallo. Bitte, sagen Sie mir Bescheid w...

I'm looking for volunteers

I thought there was a topic about this but I couldn't find it. You can find every now and then a topic like "I need help with...". I don't think a discussion forum is the best way to do this but... I'm currently making some subtitles but since they are in a language that is not my mother t...

Re: Why do people subtitle movies?

I came upon this topic while looking for something else. I think this is a very interesting question. Personally, I find myself very close to SmallBrother's motivations. These are mine in order of relevance: It is fun. I like computers and languages so this is a good way of spending my spare time. S...

Re: problem displaying non-ASCII characters in title

Now I can see the title correctly. Bur there are still many titles with the same issue. For example: http://www.opensubtitles.org/en/search/sublanguageid-all/idmovie-117085 I don't know what method is used to retrieve film information. But I see two function calls. Could it have something to do with...

Re: finding language content

I think I know what you mean. You want to have subtitles for the secondary language. For example, if you are watching an English film and there is some stuff in French, you would like to have English subtitles for that part, isn't it? Instead of "[SPEAKING FRENCH]". So you could understand...

Re: guidelines for subs

Another interesting issue we can talk about here is user preferences. From my experience I think it is good to give the users the last word: the user is always right. If he prefers equal length lines over sentences together, he should be able to get it. That is a matter of the software developer. An...
