Re: Download count exceeds?

So, you must be logged-in to download but you can upload anonymously? I don't get it. In my opinion it is much worse to have anonymous subtitles. If a subtitle is crap you should know who is responsible for that. In the same way, if a subtitle is great you should know who you have to thank. You just...

Subs with wrong CD number

Hi. Lately I've been finding a lot of subtitles with wrong CD number . Sometimes uploader uploads 3 CDs in separated files which is wrong because each one is incomplete, so you must find the others by yourself. Sometimes it is just the opposite case. The uploader sends 2 or 3 files in the same uploa...

Re: Upload errors here

Yesterday I got a lot of those "fetch backend failed" and 503.

Besides, when I tried to correct one subtitle I got "save to tmp failed". I don't know if this can help.

OS bug in web page

Hi.

When I logged in today I saw this:
Image

The number of updoaded subtitles is clearly wrong. It is about 130, not 1234567890 and I'm not platinum.

What's going on here?

Re: ASS and other subtitle file formats

Thanks. I think I'll have a look at WebVTT.

When I create SSA files I try to follow the specification but it is a little difficult when the specification is not very clear. So they could have interoperability problems.

ASS and other subtitle file formats

Hi. I've been lately trying to exploit SSA and ASS capabilities. Experimenting with format, colors and all that. I'm working with a specificacion for ASS V4.00+. I think this is a development over SSA V4.00. That makes me think there were former versions of this format specificacion (up to version 4...

I'm glad I could help.

As I always say, if you need a needle, don't look for it in a haystack, go to a haberdashery (the shop where needles are sold) :-)

Re: Subtitles with different delay

This is due to the so called PAL speed-up. Movies are sometimes made run a little faster which causes this drift. You must resynchronise the subtitle with some software. Just change its FPS from 24 to 25 and that's it. For example, Gaupol does it. Have a look: https://forum.opensubtitles.org/viewtop...

Re: what can be included in SRT format?

Yeah, more duplicates. Honestly, I think we need a more general format. I've been developing an XML-based format. https://forum.opensubtitles.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15203 You can give it a try. What benefits does it provide? Avoids redundancy. This can be achieved because it has: multiple langu...

Re: About subtitle update

I found the same problem. I think it is some kind of problem with database update. The last 3 times I tried to update I got an error: "backend fetch failed " or something like that. Now I don't know what version is really there and whether I should update again or not. Sometimes it can be ...

Re: Tip for translators

I'm guessing those embedded subs are already there when these tv-series are broadcasted to tv in english speaking countries. It is still a bad practice. Digital TV has one separate channel to carry timed text or closed captions. I am spanish, so I can understand Spanish. I don't need the subtitles....

what can be included in SRT format?

Hi. When writing subtitles I usually follow some rules about what can and what cannot be put in a SRT file. The problem here, as I've already said somewhere else, is that there is no clear formal standard. I usually accept <i> tags as valid but I have doubts about "font color". I think it ...

Re: Tip for translators

The problem here is not the translator but the embedded subtitles. Embedding subtitles in the
video is a VERY BAD PRACTICE. They can't be corrected or improved, or relocated, or anything.
