synchronizing subtitles

Hello everyone

I wish to embed subtitles in my .avi file Shoes of the Fisherman, an Anthony Quinn-Laurence Olivier classic

Only two subtitles are available for this film on opensubtitles.org, and neither fits perfectly with the film

i wish to know if it is possible - and if so, how - to make time adjustments in the MIDDLE of an .srt file

maybe you could try aegisub - imo the best free subtitle suite out there:

Subtitle workshop is the best by far...

Ctrl + B to set the first and last dialogue. This is the easy way.

Ctrl + D to adjust only 1 line or more...

you also can change framerate etc... you'll see.

Subtitle Workshop isn't capable of opening Unicode or UTF-8 encoded files.
Adjusting subtitles even works pretty good with http://www.ordero.net/subadjust/index.html - an online tool.

Time Adjuster is a good (old) tool as well, but it neither supports Unicode/UTF-8

Aegisub is imo the best _free_ tool for subtitle creation.

most often the rips are done at different fps, so simple adjust never works.
what does work is adjusting subtitles for different fps.
I suggest the use subtitle workshop - this global change is easy through that tool. It's a bit trial and error, just know the three most common fps
Just use the latest version, you'll be fine, really.

Subtitle Workshop, I use version 2.51.
Edit/Timings/Adjust/Adjust subtitles
Then type in the corrected times of the first and last subtitles.
It will adjust those and all the others proportionately.

Usually that's all you have to do, this will account for different openings and framerates.
Though of course if any scenes have been cut, or added, you'll have to make more adjustments and additions.

I've been synchronizing subs with subtitle workshop for some time with first and last sentence synchronizing method, but the problem is that last sentence can usually spoil the whole movie. Is there any other method?

or download subs in a different language to check the last timing. this only works if you find matching subs in a different language...

I have a problem with translation. Translation getting late or go forward. How to solve this problem? I have subtitle workshop, but I can't work with it. Is there any easier way ?

No.
Sorry, but you must adjust the srt manually with the movie, if don't exists exact matching subtitles for your version of the movie.

You can work with Subtitle Workshop, cause it's one of the best progs for these work, but you can also use another software, like e. g. Gaupol.
But for the work itself exist no automatically way.
