subtitle quality control

Thu Oct 02, 2014 1:26 pm

Hi

I'm not sure if this is the right place to talk about this. I tried sometime ago here (general talk section)
but since I got no answer I'll try again in this area.

My concern was about the quality of the subtitles. As a user of opensubtitles.org I find very annoying to find a lot of subtitles with very low quality. And by "low quality" I don't mean translation matters, line length, or some other high-level matter but typos and the like.

The last time I downloaded 5 subtitles. They were all basically the same, but with some minimal variations, correcting typos or a bunch of timings. And I had to select manually the good (or best) one. A very time-consuming task.

I find it is good that everyone can upload a subtitle, but I think there should be some kind of simple quality control.

I'd really appreciate a reply from the administrators.

Although I can imagine quality control is/might/should be also a matter of development, I think in the first place it makes more sense in the "general" section. My reaction is there :)
Nowadays a VPN is a must for everyone. A VPN allows you safe surfing and protects you against spying governments and companies.
I advise AirVPN - from € 2,75 per month. Click the below banner for more info.
