label confusing?

I've just come across these subs tagged "auto translated" by the uploader. But the comments say it's a manual translation ("I did my best"). Do people misunderstand "auto translated" to mean "I translated them myself"?

I find the HD tag a bit confusing. If anything, it's the movie files (hashes) that should be tagged HD, not the subtitles. A subtitles file can fit a number of HD and non-HD rips, and non-HD reencodings of an HD rip.

Edit: should have read the whole thread. Eduo already made my point.

I don't need any download counter or whatever counter. I would just like to be able to upload and download subtitles. Why not remove all those stats from the public interfaces until you've figured out the bottleneck? I think the priority should be to get the site working again, with or without stats...

There's no need to recode, unless you're short of disk space. Recoding to avi, mkv, mp4 etc. means recompressing the video, and that takes hours and the movie will look shitty if it's not done right. VOBs are just special MPG files hacked into 1 GB pieces, with some extra stuff like subtitles added....

If it's the wrong movie you should look it up in IMDb and correct the IMDb ID. You can also leave a comment for "those fucking users" (on the movie or on their userpage) so they know that something is wrong with the subtitles they submit. Maybe without the F word. I don't think they do it ...

I know that text. Most of these rules are good, but some are debatable. For example I prefer unabridged subtitles, even if they're longer. Sometimes 2 lines * 35 chars isn't enough. Also I personally prefer when there's no line break in subtitles if it's just for layout, because the maximum length o...

bullshit bad ratings

I'm seeing more and more perfectly good, in-sync subs rated with one star. Latest example is this one . Apparently two logged-in members gave it the lowest rating. It also happened to me once -- someone rated a subtitles file with one star immediately after I uploaded it. What's going on here? Do so...

Media Player Classic has a hidden feature for adjusting subtitles. Press Ctrl+6 to open the subtitle editor. Then you can double-click on subtitles to synchronize them while the movie is playing. If only part of the subtitles are out of sync, you can insert a "separation" (right click menu...

Re: Help me with Psychopathia Sexualis

Here's what I understand: 00:12:20, A woman takes a chicken out of a chest: "But as the object of man's desire, she is often the receptacle for his most prurient thoughts and deeds." 00:17:05, Two prostitutes, one veteran and one novice, prepare to receive a special patron: Veteran: "...

I've found SubCreator really handy for quickly adding timestamps to a script. I'm busy right now, and I don't know if I'm interested because you didn't mention what movie it is, but maybe someone else will take over. Actually transcribing the lines is the most time consuming part, and that's already...

Good to know it's not just me! This smells of some serious database corruption. I tried to upload 60 subs with subdownloader yesterday, but when I checked in the browser I got "These subtitles have been deleted". An example for what LeapinLar says is http://www.opensubtitles.org/en/subtitl...

How to report wrong hash?

Is there a way (other than XMLRPC) to report a wrong movie hash for a subtitles file? The old Subdownloader had this function but now I can't find it anywhere in Subdownloader, Oscar or the Firefox extension.

This happens when the subtitles use a different text encoding from the computer they're played on. I don't use WMP, so I don't know how to set the encoding there. Anyway, the best thing is to convert the subtitles to Unicode, because it handles all languages and should work without any custom settin...
